The 36 Channels of Human Design
A channel is the connection between two specific gates, each sitting on a different center. Human Design has 36 channels. When both gates of a channel are activated in your chart, the channel is defined: those two centers stay linked, and that theme is a steady part of how you operate. One gate on its own is a hanging gate, a theme looking for its partner. The channel is what makes the energy consistent, instead of something you only pick up from other people.
Each channel is named by its two gate numbers and by the theme those gates create. Channel 1-8 is the Channel of Inspiration, linking the Self center to the Throat. Channel 2-14 is the Channel of the Alchemist, linking the Self to the Sacral. You do not carry all 36. A typical chart defines only a few.
