The 5 Human Design Types Explained
Your Human Design type is the foundation of your entire chart — it describes how your energy is built to operate and the most reliable way for you to make decisions. There are five types: Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, and Reflector. Each one has a distinct aura, a unique strategy for engaging with life, and a "signature" feeling that tells you when you are living in alignment.
Unlike personality tests that sort you by how you answer questions, your type is calculated from your exact birth date, time, and place. It does not change over time. Understanding it is the single most useful step in Human Design, because almost everything else in your chart — your strategy, your not-self theme, how you use your energy day to day — flows from it.
How to Find Your Type
You cannot reliably guess your type from behaviour alone, because two people of the same type can look very different on the surface. Type is determined by which centers are defined in your chart and how they connect to the Throat — the center responsible for action and expression.
The fastest way to know for certain is to generate your free chart with your birth details. Once you have it, your type appears at the top, alongside your strategy and authority. From there you can explore each of the five types below to understand what your type means in practice.
Energy Types vs. Strategy
Roughly 70% of people are Generators or Manifesting Generators — the life-force types whose energy is designed to respond to what shows up in their lives. Manifestors (around 9%) are here to initiate and inform. Projectors (around 20%) are the guides, designed to be recognised and invited rather than to push. Reflectors (about 1%) are rare mirrors of the health of their community.
Each type has its own strategy — respond, inform before acting, wait for the invitation, or wait a lunar cycle — and following that strategy is what reduces resistance and friction in life.
