Inner Authority in Human Design
Your authority is your built-in decision-making compass — the reliable, body-based way you are designed to reach correct choices. It stands in contrast to the mind, which is brilliant for processing information and advising others, but unreliable for your own personal decisions.
Your authority is not something you choose; it is determined by which centers are defined in your chart, following a fixed hierarchy.
The Six Authorities
Emotional (Solar Plexus): there is no truth in the now — wait out your emotional wave until you reach clarity. Sacral: trust the immediate gut response, the uh-huh or uh-uh that answers in the moment. Splenic: follow the quiet, one-time intuitive hit that speaks softly in the present. Heart/Ego: decide from what you genuinely want and have the willpower to back. Self (G): talk it out and listen for what rings true to your identity and direction. Outer: when there is no inner authority, clarity comes from discussing decisions with trusted people and sensing the right environment.
Making Decisions by Your Authority
The core shift is moving decisions out of your head and into your body — and, for some, across time. Emotional authorities especially need to resist snap decisions; their clarity emerges only over the wave, never in a single moment. Sacral and Splenic authorities, by contrast, are designed to decide quickly and in the present. Learning to honor your specific authority is the most practical step toward reducing resistance in your life.
