The 12 Human Design Profiles

Your profile is the costume your personality wears — the role you are here to play and the way you are designed to interact with the world. It is written as two numbers, like 5/1 or 3/6, drawn from the lines of your conscious and unconscious Sun and Earth. There are six possible lines, which combine into twelve possible profiles.

Where your type describes your energy, your profile describes your character.

The Six Profile Lines

Each number is one of six archetypal lines: 1, the Investigator, who needs a solid foundation of knowledge; 2, the Hermit, naturally gifted and called out from their alone-time; 3, the Martyr, who learns through trial and error; 4, the Opportunist, who builds life through relationships and networks; 5, the Heretic, the practical, projected-upon problem-solver; and 6, the Role Model, who lives in three distinct life phases and becomes a living example. Your two numbers blend two of these lines into one role.

Reading and Living Your Profile

The first number is your conscious personality theme — how you experience yourself. The second is the unconscious role your body lives out, which others often see first. A 5/1, for instance, pairs the projected-upon problem-solver with a need for deep, foundational study. Profiles also divide into personal lines (1, 2, 3), where your path is more inwardly driven, and transpersonal lines (4, 5, 6), where it unfolds through others.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Human Design profile?
A profile is the combination of two lines — one conscious, one unconscious — that describes the role and character your personality is designed to play. Written as two numbers (e.g. 5/1), it adds a layer of "how you operate" on top of your energy type.
What does a profile like 5/1 mean?
In a 5/1, the first line (5, the Heretic) is your conscious theme: a practical, projected-upon problem-solver. The second line (1, the Investigator) is your unconscious need for a deep, secure foundation of knowledge. The two combine into a single way of moving through life.
How many Human Design profiles are there?
There are twelve profiles, formed by combining the six lines in valid pairings, such as 1/3, 2/4, 3/5, 4/6, 5/1, and 6/2. Each profile describes a distinct role and life path.
What is the most common Human Design profile?
There is no single dominant profile — all twelve appear across the population. Rather than ranking them, it is more useful to understand the two lines your own profile combines, since that is what shapes how you are designed to engage with life.
How do I find my Human Design profile?
Your profile is calculated from your exact birth date, time, and location, not from a quiz. Generate your free chart and your profile (two numbers, like 3/5) will appear alongside your type, strategy, and authority.
