The Gate of Desires
Overview
Gate 30 corresponds to Hexagram 30 of the I Ching, 'The Clinging'. Sometimes known as The Clinging Fire, this gate relates to the desires burning within you, the yearning to engage with life and encounter all its offerings.
One lesson through this gate is for you to release any expectations before entering into a relationship, pursuit, or experience because being attached to an outcome leads to disappointment, whereas being open and receptive to what you sense and what an experience teaches you results in satisfaction.
As you work through through life, your eagerness to experiment with new things will expose you to joys, sorrows, and their associated rewards and consequences. Ultimately, you will learn to control an impulsive, sometimes random, inclination to try anything and everything. Appropriately tending the inner flames is what matters, gathering wisdom as you progress.
Too frequently, we are convinced that life is a tough school where we come to learn our lessons before moving on to a better place. We overlook the fact that Earth can be a paradise and that we also come here to have a blast while enjoying enlightening experiences. You will realize that life can be lived out in two ways: one, where you get the sense that something may be worth doing but are unsure if it is "allowed," so you cautiously venture into it and get stuck in never having the experience; or, two, where you find your clarity, follow your instincts, and immerse yourself fully in the entirety of an experience, emerging from the other side with a "Wow!
