Human Design and Gene Keys
Overview
Gene Keys and Human Design start from the same 64 gates. Human Design places those gates on the nine centers, connects them into 36 channels, and reads type, strategy, and authority from the definition. Gene Keys, taught by Richard Rudd, reads each gate as a spectrum: Shadow, Gift, and Siddhi. Same hexagram. Different question.
Soul Flow calculates a Human Design chart. The free result prints type, strategy, authority, profile, centers, channels, gates, and the incarnation cross. It does not calculate a Gene Keys profile, and it does not label any gate as a Shadow, a Gift, or a Siddhi. If you are looking for that reading, this page will tell you how the two systems relate. It will not pretend the app contains the other one.
What Human Design does with a gate
A gate in Human Design is a theme sitting on a center. When the gate at the other end of a channel is also on, the channel is defined and both centers are defined. Definition is what produces type. The gates library describes each of the 64 as a Human Design theme. The channels describe the 36 connections. None of those pages use the Gene Keys names.
The practical output is mechanical. Strategy is how your type engages: respond, respond then test and inform, wait for the invitation, inform before acting, or wait a lunar cycle. Authority is how you decide. Those two lines are the part of the chart you can use on a Tuesday. A gate interpretation is detail. It does not override them. What Human Design is is the full outline.
What Gene Keys does with the same gate
Gene Keys treats the 64 gates as a contemplation. For each gate, the Shadow is the reactive pattern, the Gift is the same material lived with more awareness, and the Siddhi is the far end of that spectrum. The practice is to sit with the gate, not to check whether a center is colored. There is no Generator strategy in that practice, and there is no emotional wave to wait out, because those belong to Human Design.
The sequences in Gene Keys are built from specific activations. The Activation Sequence begins with the Life's Work, which uses the Personality Sun gate: the same conscious Sun gate Human Design prints in the black column and as the first number of the incarnation cross. So if your Human Design Sun gate is 61, a Gene Keys reading of the Life's Work is also about gate 61. The sentences that follow (Shadow, Gift, Siddhi) are not on the Soul Flow chart. The gate number is the shared fact.
Where people mix them up
The mix-up is usually the Sun gate. Someone learns a Shadow name for gate 48, then looks at a defined Spleen and treats the Shadow as a diagnosis. Human Design does not describe open or defined centers that way, and this library does not attach psychological or medical claims to a gate. Defined means consistent. Open means you sample that theme through other people. The center pages stay on that distinction.
The other mix-up is ranking. A Siddhi is not a higher type, and a Shadow is not a failed chart. Human Design already refuses that kind of ladder: a Reflector is not an unfinished Generator. Gene Keys is a contemplative spectrum inside one gate. It is not a score across people. This site does not claim either system is the better one. They answer different questions.
What to open on Soul Flow
For the mechanics, generate the free chart and read type, strategy, and authority first. how to read a chart is the order. The incarnation cross page explains the four Sun and Earth gates, which is as far as this chart goes toward "life theme." It stops at the Human Design cross. It does not continue into a Gene Keys sequence.
If you study Gene Keys elsewhere, bring the gate numbers from this chart and leave the labels there. Your Personality Sun gate is the honest handoff. Everything past that (the Shadow name, the Gift name, the sequence) is a different text. The glossary is the Human Design vocabulary used on this site, so a Gene Keys term you do not find there is not hiding. It was never added.
